The Global Category Manager is responsible for supporting global buyers, requisitioners and suppliers with subject matter expertise and best practices in category management, working in a matrixed organization as functional owner of category suppliers.

Category Management responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop, negotiate, implement and manage global strategies, delivering category productivity through price, value analysis and continuous improvement

Provide global category expertise and lead acquisition for key high-dollar commodities

Provide global category sources and pricing for regional and site procurement execution

Manage supplier relationships, performance metrics, and ensure continuity of supply

Lead business intelligence including global market trends, competitive benchmarking and SWOT analysis

Develop and monitor ESCO purchasing processes to ensure compliance worldwide; identify non-conformances and take corrective actions to rapidly close gaps in practices

Identify opportunities and drive global activities to improve purchasing consistency, efficiency and effectiveness of personnel, processes and systems

Project Management

Job Duties:
Identify and engage internal stakeholders to capture requirements and ensure supplier capability and performance

Develop, execute and maintain detailed category strategies that leverage global spend, support growth strategies, achieve financial targets, mitigate risk, and proactively anticipate market trends

Lead supplier selection to develop long-term sources of supply which support category strategies

Define and execute strategies for supplier negotiations and contract development

Support Region/Site Operations and Procurement teams through preferred supplier programs and strategies

Study market trends, developments and changes in category markets and develop risk mitigation strategies

Provide single point of accountability for internal escalation for category cost, quality or delivery issues

Create, implement and manage cost reduction activities with key suppliers

Actively monitor and manage supplier risk, performance, capacity, capability, quality and contract compliance

Coordinate with Finance, IT Business Analysts and Developers to optimize buyer efficiencies and develop purchasing reports

Establish and monitor necessary metrics and controls to assure Purchasing meets Compliance standards for policies


Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or relevant field required

Six+ years’ category management experience including sourcing projects in a global organization required

Demonstrated global category management including analysis, strategy development, contracts, negotiations and supplier management required


equires proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Other Skills & Abilities:
Strong relationship management skills and ability to successfully collaborate with all levels and locations of the organization and external suppliers required

Proven track record of supporting development, implementation, improvement and execution of global policies, processes and procedures preferred

Ability to lead change with proven record of successful implementation

Must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with all internal and external contacts

Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
